Usually an author gives you a romance that all ends well and everybody is happy. The hero and heroine end up riding off into the sunset and everything is well with the world and each other. “The Cowboy Who Came Calling” is different and it is refreshing to see that all doesn't end well and everything can't be fixed to perfection. What a change from the norm and kudos to the author for this. This new style gives the reader the feeling that this is real, not a fantasy where everything can be fixed with a mere band-aid. Marriage is hard work and the author shows this with our hero and heroine as they ride into the sunset, but knowing they have some hard work ahead to make their marriage work. The author gives both sides of what love can be. You feel that it can be good with the hard mixed in. That is real! BUT I have to say, I felt that the good outweighed the bad in this book.
Within the pages of “The Cowboy Who Came Calling” we get a strong heroine in Glory. She is a woman who knows that you have to face the trouble in life. You have to face it directly. We get the hero, Luke who is a combination of personalities but he holds his own. Sometimes it is humorous the way he stumbles through life. Other characters are also interesting including Glory's younger sister, Patience. She is in conflict with her name of Patience. There are so many potential stories that can come out of this book. We have a secondary hero and he too could be another story of romance. Well, I hope so!
This second book in the Texas Heroes series has wonderful characters to love and the anticipation of future stories grab you. This book won’t let you go. There are not only characters to love but the Texas setting is in the midst at all times. As you read you may wish a cowboy would call.
