A Novel of the Others, #1

This is a gripping novel from start until finish. Ms. Bishop creates a world where humans know they’re on the bottom of the food chain of life, and how some are working towards changing that status. A host of believable characters, situations and scenarios leaving readers suspended in disbelief, all of which drive this story from start to finish. In the end, Ms. Bishop leaves readers wanting more.

Meg is a woman forced to take shelter with predators who believe “food” should stay where they belong (fenced in areas) and limited interaction between these two groups. Meg is running from a place which people or "Others" have little knowledge. She can predict the future by making cuts on her skin until blood flows and she is used for the profits of others. Her life (until she meets the Others) is limited to learning through reading or viewing pictures to make observations and conclusions to aid her prophesying abilities.

When Meg applies and gets a job within the Others’ common areas where humans (prey) and Others comingle, change occurs. Meg (for the first time in her life) learns how to interact with everyone. The Others are puzzled as Meg does not act like prey, yet they acknowledge she is human. When prey and predator start intermingling with Meg, factions arise within the humans to get Meg back to her protectors and attempt to hurt the Others in the process.

Meg evolves throughout the story forcing the Others to change as the story progresses. She is a strong character who is pivotal in making some of the Others change their stance on humans. This is just the beginning of the saga between humans and their predators. I eagerly look forward to reading the next story in The World of The Others series.

No one creates realms like New York Times bestselling author Anne Bishop. Now in a thrilling new fantasy series, enter a world inhabited by the Others, unearthly entities—vampires and shape-shifters among them—who rule the Earth and whose prey are humans.

As a cassandra sangue, or blood prophet, Meg Corbyn can see the future when her skin is cut—a gift that feels more like a curse. Meg’s Controller keeps her enslaved so he can have full access to her visions. But when she escapes, the only safe place Meg can hide is at the Lakeside Courtyard—a business district operated by the Others.

Shape-shifter Simon Wolfgard is reluctant to hire the stranger who inquires about the Human Liaison job. First, he senses she’s keeping a secret, and second, she doesn’t smell like human prey. Yet a stronger instinct propels him to give Meg the job. And when he learns the truth about Meg and that she’s wanted by the government, he’ll have to decide if she’s worth the fight between humans and the Others that will surely follow.
