I unquestionably have diverse feelings having concluded my own reading of the novel, "Hurts To Love You." When I first began my reading I was doing so blindly as I have not previously read any of the books within the "Forbidden Hearts," series by the author, Alisha Rai and therefore could base this review solely off the overall story. Sadly, I think this novel lived up to more of its exposure rather than how good the story actually was. For me, I don't consider this story to be a great book nor do I consider it to be a bad read, instead, I think I am somewhere in between.
I'll continue with the positive influence this book had on myself and that was the writing itself. I liked how this story had moved forward without the need for much delay. Each scene was well-written, colorful and I would even dare write memorable. The author surely knows how to write a rewarding story. The heated attraction between Gabe and Eve was exciting, steamy and filled with impulsive intensity. Yet, where there was fire I feel like there was also water as in the romance failed to satisfy.
The romance in this story is on the down low, meaning fairly non-existent. Yes, there was a lot of desirabilities exchanged between Eve and Gabe, but that was about it. I do not believe that these two were madly in love with one another and I would even go so far as to say this even had more of an HFN-ending (Happy For Now) rather than one designed around the meaning of forever. I was disappointed by the lack of true romance in this story as I was with the general plot as it was so contemporary and mostly standard.
In short, I think I liked this book, at least the majority of it but I didn't love this story. I do not regret my reading of this book, but I think it is also a book that I could have skipped. So I will not recommend the book nor will I suggest in not reading this story.
Being bad never felt so good, in the third novel in Alisha Rai’s sexy Forbidden Hearts series!
Well-behaved women don’t lust after men who love to misbehave.
Heiress Evangeline Chandler knows how to keep a secret . . . like her life-long crush on the tattooed hottie who just happens to be her big brother’s friend. She’s a Chandler, after all, and Chandlers don’t hook up with the help. Then again, they also don’t disobey their fathers and quit their respectable jobs, so good-girl rules may no longer apply.
Gabriel Hunter hides the pain of his past behind a smile, but he can’t hide his sudden attraction to his friend’s sheltered little sister. Eve is far too sweet to accept anything less than forever and there’s no chance of a future between the son of a housekeeper and the town’s resident princess.
When a wedding party forces Eve and Gabe into tight quarters, keeping their hands off each other will be as hard as keeping their clothes on. The need that draws them together is stronger than the forces that should shove them apart . . . but their sparks may not survive the explosion when long-buried secrets are finally unearthed.
