In this tale, no pun intended, our heroine is growing up after the tragedy of losing your mother and having to endure your first period, first crush, first changing into a mermaid all with the help of your father. This is another well told original story in which everything we learn at first is not what it seems and our heroine Jade must fight for her family on top of going through all the puberty changes that other normal girls go through.
The reader will find themselves rooting for Jade and her family as well as their set of circumstances. As she discovers her family secret when her feet turn into a tail, Jade must deal with the details, or lack thereof, of her mother’s drowning and separating facts from fiction as well as keeping her secret from her best friend, Cori, and love interest, Luke.
The typical teenager in many ways, Jade is funny in a slightly but enjoyable sarcastic way. This new take on mythical and paranormal storylines is refreshing in itself, but Jade’s voice makes us true believers that maybe mermaids really do exist in our world.
With a fun twist at the end, I found that this book would be an excellent read for young adults as well as adults. With the humor and sarcasm, the reader will either connect with the intelligence of Jade’s character or reminisce to a time when we lived through our own coming of age changes, minus the tail of course.
I found this to be another clever take on an original storyline and plot in a sea of copycat vampire genres. I highly recommend this one to anyone into the paranormal novel with smart and witty characters you will never forget.
Freak of nature takes on a whole new meaning...
If she hadn't been so clueless, she might have seen it coming. But really, who expects to get into a relaxing bathtub after a stressful day of shopping for tankinis and come out with scales and a tail?
Most. Embarrassing. Moment. Ever.
Jade soon discovers she inherited her mermaid tendencies from her mom. But if Mom was a mermaid, how did she drown?
Jade is determined to find out. So how does a plus-size, aqua-phobic mer-girl go about doing that exactly? And how will Jade ever be able to explain her secret to her best friend, Cori, and to her crush, Luke?
This summer is about to get a lot more interesting...
